Long Island Pipe Supply Inc. is sponsoring American Women's Yacht Racing, Inc. the only all girls sailing team in the tri-state area. AWYR flew the Long Island Pipe Supply spinnaker sail every Tuesday night in the New York Harbor during Manhattan Sailing Club racing. The company's donation helps facilitate New York Harbor racing and also enabled the team on the road to the Rolex International Women's Keelboat Championship the highest profile, most competitive, women's keelboat regatta in the world held in Annapolis, Maryland this past September.
AWYR is a not-for-profit organization founded to encourage the participation of women in competitive sailing. The organization has dedicated itself to teaching and competing in this exciting sport on all levels and several venues. The AWYR team has competed international and locally in Antigua Race Week, Heineken Cup St. Maarten, BVI Regatta, Long Island Sound Regattas and the prestigious Rolex International Women's Keelboat Championship. They have won several trophies and plaques for regattas and charity races but their best accolade was an article about them in the Sunday New York Times after competing in the 2001 Rolex.
The sport promotes teamwork, skill, strength, strategic thinking and spirit, while developing relationships both business and personal, the building blocks for a better community. Long Island Pipe Supply Inc. supports and promotes this competitive thinking and is proud to help AWYR share their knowledge and corinthian spirit with others.
